Axel first met Nick at a party when Nick was in his female form, Nico. Nick forgot about the occasion, but Axel remembered the night and her clearly. Years later Axel and Nick meet and axel mentions Nico, so Nick says he can get them in touch. Axel and Nico meet and start going steady, though Nick is going along because he feels obligated. Overtime Nick develops real feeling for Axel. After about half a year of dating, Axel was kidnapped. Nick saved him though Axel felt like he wasn't good enough for Nico and broke it off with her. Axel still interacts with Nick often despite this, having never made the connection between Nico and Nick.
